long time since i posted my ds is now 5 and started school in jan 07. Has been seen at local cdc since he was 6 months old never had a dx for him just global delay. Reached the point 2 years ago when i just couldn't fight anymore. After portage stopped early years completly disapeared.I always knew deep down he would have problems at school but kept being told he was fine at which point i gave up. when he started school i was asked if we would like to remove him from the special needs register this set off alarm bells and it was decided he would remain on school action. This was my son in school on the register and no visit from early years his end year report was awful he is so far behind i was devastated. Was promised he would have support in y1 suprise suprise nothing happened until I told them 2 weeks ago that the school were failing my son and that i wouldn't stand for it .He is having an assessment on tuesday with the ed phy. Got my fighting head on ready but sure support will be needed at some stage.

Hi Skatermum, so sorry this has been such a struggle for you. How long is it since you have seen your GP about this because I would suggest your DS needs to go for an assessment with a paediatrician. If the paed decides there is a case for referral on then they will do it. If the GP won't refer then get a second opinion because they should be trusting your judgement.

It is great that your DS is seeing the ed psych. but they aren't really qualified to dx a lot of conditions although they will be able to put a programme together for you to help so you do need to get a dx if possible. It is not vital but as you have found, without one, your DS will be easy to ignore.

What does your DS find particularly difficult at school? Is it things that the school can sort out without help from other professionals?

Hello and sorry that you have had so much trouble getting any support for your DS. hope that the ed psych appointment is productive.
