Does it mean anything if a child can do that, i was wondering. Me and husband was sitting watching tv the other day, and out of the blue ds who has just turned 4 started for z and saying it all backwards.

I still can't believe it, by the way he is autistic.

My DD also does this, she also numbers the alphabet ie H is number 8, you ask her what number T is of the alphabet and while your still counting on your fingers she will just tell you in seconds.

It amazing what interests them, lol

I think it a strange quirk, my ds1 got a thing about directions, and would recite satnav style directions spot on for wherever we went, even though he can't even tell his left from his right when asked!

my sister used to sing whole songs with the words read backwards, was really quite strange!

She also used to number letters and would look at a work say like lollipop and say 'double l, double o, double p!'.

We all found it quite alarming.

She is now 25 and a primary school teacher....

Yep my son can do the backward alphabet thing too! I think he sees the alphabet visually because he can start anywhere in the alphabet and go forward or backward.

ds is in mainstream and has learning difficulties. The only time he has been top of the class was when the task was to write the alphabet which was his current obsession!

Mt eldest could sing and sign a variety of songs at ten months old. He did not speak his first word until 20 months. It was like the words in the songs were just a series of sounds and actions that he could recite. He did not seem to link the words and actions with any meaning until later.
