ICAN Place for DD whooo hooo

got a phonecall yesterday, ICAN have accepted dd for a place in one of their nurseries starting september.
its in the same nursery she,s in now so we wont have 12 months of her crying while she settles in another nursery.
we are ecstatic.
we were told by SENCO" she,s not severe enough to need an ICAN place, we can help her in the nursery" by the Ed Psych "She MAY have a language delay" may? the cleaner knows dd has a language delay so a couple of complaint letters later to the head of the Ed PScyh dept (thats not like me is it )
and a meeting with the principal 2 weeks ago and shes in.
the SLT from ICAN admitted to me yesterday that they dont normally take children with suspected ASD, just with more severe language problems.
but why not? isnt ASD accountable for one of the most common language disorders?
thats what i told him anyway.
just need to win the tribunal now, 2 weeks today.

i dont know much about ICAN, is it the same as a salt would do?
we are going to a conference next month to find out but just wondering if anyone could enlighten me a bit?

Not sure if they are all the same, but the ICAN nursery near to us has a Teacher, Teaching Assistant and Speech and Language Therapist working within tbe nursery classroom, so SALT targets and programmes are integrated throughout all activities all day. I think the children also have small group and possibly 1:1 input too. The class is made up of a 50:50 split of children with SALT as a primary need and children without additional SALT needs, so that there is continual mixing with appropriate language models.

Places are extremely rare - what a fantastic opportunity for your dd.

thanks for explaning 2ticks.
i didnt realise that places were so rare, we had to really put up a fight to get her a place.
WE have to go to a conference next month and watch videos and a presentation, im just so pleased that dd,s needs are being taken seriously cos the LEA have played everything down for over a year but the ICAN salt and teacher who came to our house to asess dd agreed with everything we said, but then they are not linked to funding, cynical me?
