Six form admission appeal

DS with ASD and a statement missed minimum requiredment of grade B in English. He got a C. Other grades are OK, 4 A*. So we appeal to the admission panel. There are other appeals to be heard for the same school.

Did anyone win it? Did anyone loose it? Am I going to run into unexpectedly hard resistance from the panel?

Any experiences?

You shouldn't be going through the admission panel. Does the statement still name that school? If so, they have no choice but to give DS the place.

I came across something similar once - child of 16 had gone through tribunal once and tribunal ordered that the school be named. When the results came out he hadn't quite achieved the school's requirements and they wrote to the parents saying tough, we're not taking him. Parents had to get solicitors involved, once the law was pointed out to the school and they realised they were at risk of being taken to court, they gave in. The same law applies if the LA has named the school in the statement.

Agree with Icimoi. If the statement names the school, it has no choice. Politely point this out to them Smile

What if they write to the LA asking to stop maintaininf statement as DS missed entry requirements?...

They can't stop the statement for that reason. The LA can only cease to maintain a statement if it is no longer needed.

I would concur with the others; you should not have to be in front of any admissions panel at all.

Would suggest you talk to IPSEA //www.ipsea.org.uk as they could be helpful to you also in these circumstances. They have a callback service.

HisMum, can I suggest that if you're still having any problems about this you contact SOS SEN or IPSEA?
