Statutory assessment deadline

I am thinking if applying for a statement on the basis that ds has made no progress all year. This was confirmed in the last few weeks and I am just awaiting his report to come on Friday. (Although I suspect that he will miraculously have made progress as he is now medicated for ADHD and when the lack of orogress was confirmed they refused to out him on an academic IEP)

As I understand it, if we get the request in by August 31 then they have to assess under the 'old' system. Is this correct? Can I have a link to show dh please? (We are hoping that we can get the request in on Monday after the report all things going well)

Also, obviously to ep won't be able to assess this academic year...will they put the ep assessment on hold until September, and will they try and use that as an excuse to put him through under the 'new' system?

Also, I am almost sure that it will come back with NIL as he is not on sa+. But school didn't even put him on sa until he was medicated (and we had to ask if he was on it). I am sure there is more they could do for him academic wise.

He is on a ramp for play times and has had social skills sessions and bright stars.

Trying to get my DS statemented school say no chance he's made no progress with reading in 24 months! It's not down to 'poor' teaching its his autism explained to me at an IEP meeting which I then left!
He's been removed from guided reading groups as he was put down 3 groups, and as he says was then with 2 boys who can't read and my ds couldn't keep quiet!

Problem is cauldron I don't think many people know the answer to your question and that is including the LEA's who are meant to be implementing it. You could try ringing up parent partnership in your area who should know what your LEA or doing. Alternatively, the IPSEA website might be worth looking at. The latter have a template letter for applying for a statement - you don't need to include evidence when you first submit the request so there is no advantage delaying until you get the report.
