Could this be aspergers

I am really struggling with my 8 year old dd at the moment and starting to wonder if she could have aspergers. Have just started getting some professional advice but we are at the beginning of the road and in the meantime I am extremely worried.

She was previously always a very happy child. Normal development, although a bit high strung. Some issues with to liking any clothes that are too tight, etc. But generally fine.

At 7 started developing some issues with social interaction at school. She does not react well to any criticism, reacts with badly to things. I think she uses to just get into a strop but now reacts with anger, says mean things to other children, etc. This is causing her extreme anxiety and she keeps talking about it home. Most worrying is that she gets into these strange states where she talks about how her life is terrible/nothing is fun, and she has started getting aggressive towards me, lashing out and hitting me. Usually no trigger - but it does happen in the evening when she is tired.

Unfortunately girls with Asd/Aspergers do start to struggle as they get older and the social interactions at school become more complex.

I would recommend making some notes about your concerns and going to you GP to ask for a referral to a developmental paediatrician. You do not have to take your Dd with you.

The hitting after school is likely to be due to the stresses of the day as well as tiredness, it is exhausting for our girls to cope all day at school and falling apart at home is extremly common.

While you wait for your Paed appointment keep a diary of her behaviours/issues, what causes them (if you know) and how you deal with them.

Keep coming on here for supprt and advice.

Good luck Smile
