I have had lots going on and have had no time to MN.

I have taken on a second job which is quite heavy going and taking up lots of time.

DS4 is currently going through the statementing process but we still have no dx as no one can agree. Lots of auti traits but he just seems to social for an asd dx. He is very much like a young George (as in George & Sam), very verbal but some what bizarre. When shown a picture of a chair and asked "What is it"? replies "Thats my lunch". An apple is a "next day one" and so on. He can be very hard work as he gets very angry, (when things to his perception are incorrect) but his concentration span is improving.

He is very different to ds3, much more verbal. It is easier going through it all again in someways but I have been feeling pretty stressed.
My dad has recently found out he has cancer so that has been a blow to the whole family.

Hope you are all well, wil try not to leave it so long next time.

Socci, Hope you are well, have seen your tribunal thread so imagine things aren't going to plan.

JJ You have hit the nail on the head. We are sure he has a semantic pragmatic language disorder but it is not given as a dx here. ASD is given instead but it just doesn't suit ds4 at all.
Glad to hear from you all again

WTF???? Wy isn't it given as a dx there? How completely and utterly weird (mind you remember my ds1 was "definitely not autistic and any problems if there are any are so mild you won't notice them".What a strange place.

The trouble with an ASD dx if its SPD is that he won't get the right sort of help. I've found that ASD dx do not attract nearly enough work on language.

How about Teach Me This??? Is that what its called- will check later and post back have to turn computer off now.

Maddiemo - well as you know dd is very simialr to your ds although many of her early language problems are now resolved, it's mainly the pragmatics that are still causing problems and she does struggle with inferences but is improving.
I know what you mean about an asd dx. Dd has been so hard to tie to any dx and I too feel that pragmatic language disorder fits her well and have the same problem that is she is to attend a language unit for high school then we need to keep it as a LD and not asd as she won't get in and the AS unit is cr*p!

JJ Apparently SPD is an old fashioned dx and is now considered part of the autistic spectrum(well at least here it is).
The reason we don't want asd dx is that we feel he is best suited to Speech & Language specialist placement, however they are reluctant to take him due to his asd type traits. He is just way too social for any other kind of special placement but I get the feeling that in mainstream, even with support, he won't make significant progress.

Not heard of Teach me this so any advice would be welcome.

MrsG (BH?) What is your dd's dx then?
Hope she is well, is she xferring to juniors?

Hi Maddiemo - well dd's being "kept an eye on" as she does have some traits of Aspergers. Thing is with dd is that she does have other bits about her that rule it out.
So basically she now has a dx of Pragmatic language disorder with autistic traits and Adhd (she is now on medication and it has worked wonders!).
It's a case of wait and see and nothing is cut and dry. At least with the autistic traits it means people working with her know that she doesn't like change, needs visual prompts etc

Wanted to say also that I was sorry to hear about your dad. Fingers crossed that the tests give some hopeful results xxx
