My ds is 6. He is a good, kind boy but has a number of problems.

He has behaviours which I believe lend to autistic tendencies. He is constantly making noises and fidgeting. He struggles socially. Playing games and rules make no sense to him.

He has struggled to settle at school. They have a number of measures in place to support him.

We had a terrible time before Christmas he was excluded from school as it wasn't safe. School completed a camhs referral. We have been told he isn't suitable for assessment.

There is more to his behaviour to make me think this. He doesn't like eye contact. Hates his routine being changed. More will spring to mind once I have posted I'm sure.

Sorry for brief post I'm on my phone.

Any suggestions greatly received. As people now think I'm a bad parent and his behaviour is my fault. (We do enforce good behaviour. Discourage appropriately. He eats well goes to bed on time etc etc). I am open to suggestions.

Thank you

Go to your GP and ask for a re-referral. We were rejected twice from the Community Paediatricians and once from CAMHS before being seen. It is awful but you just have to keep hammering on the door to get an appointment.

Thank you for the reply. I did see the gp but they didn't seem that interested. Dp thinks I'm making excuses for his behaviour. Maybe I'm seeing 2+2 and making 5. It is obvious to me and the senco/school. Just know one dare say it out loud.

Will go to gp again once my broken hip is mended :-)

I know how horrible it is to be turned away by CAMHS when your dc is struggling. My dd (5) was just turned down as she 'doesn't meet the threshold'... Which according to senco in our area seems to be attempting suicide Sad

I am due to see the GP again tomorrow... Defo go see the GP again when your hip is mended...

I hope you feel better soon and that you get the help for your dc

Dinky. Thank you for the reply. It is so frustrating when u know something isn't right and want others to give the support to help them. I guess like all services they are over stretched and meet the needs of those who need it the most. :-(.

Hope things get sorted for your daughter.

Find symptoms of a range of developmental delays, from ASD, to ADHD and dyspraxia. List all the ones that you can identify in your ds and put a real life example next to it. Take it to the GP with a request for a referral to a developmental paediatrician and ask him to put your list in your ds' file.
