dh has been a useless twunt. how he holds down a respectable job I'll never know.

we have a big family party next week. In Germany. really looking forward to it - they are the onyl relations of dh's (just about) that are nice, andlooking forward to catching up.

duly applied for ds' passport. faffed about getting the photos right, and used POst Office check & send. all fine.

this was 3 weeks ago, so today I phoned to see when we could expect the passport, as getting a bit twitchy.

they sent dh a letter 2 weeks ago apparently, which has lain unopened, along with all his other post, in the hallway. there is a problem with ds' form. they can't tell me what the problem was, jsut that we have to submit a new form.

we are never going to get a new form done, submitted, and a passport back by next Thursday, are we? Angry

I was really looking forward to the break, too. now I'll have to stay behind with ds and dd1 (not going to send her off with dh, his grown up children and dd2 - half her routines will get forgotten, dh will get caught up in the party and dd1 will be overlooked) while he trots off and has a lovely long weekend in Germany.

bollocks.

it's just all so crappy.

ds hasn't been sleeping (yes, I know, he's a baby Grin) - the last 2 weeks the longest he has gone, day or night has been an hour. seriously.

a long weekend break was just the ticket. had it all planned - Christmas market, visit to the shoe shop for seriously good winter boots fo rus all, and of course, the Haribo factory outlet Grin Wink

he's better bring back a suitcase full of the stuff Angry Grin

you can't go and get a one-day job for a first application, zzzzz.

the lady on the phone today was very sympathetic, but all we can do is re-submit.

there is potentially a one-week service, but they cannot gurantee an appointment within 2 weeks (can phone tomorrow to see), and then it is only guaranteed to arrive within a week after interview. we've got 4 working days.

This is why I unashamedly open dh's post (that and the fact I never get mail so it's nice to open something)

Report
silverfrog · 22/11/2012 18:48

but he's a Grown up!

fair play if he was not capable, couldn't do forms, or whatever.

but he's a bloody respectable, senior City worker. he lives, nay dreams forms. not to mention the fact that he insisted on signing it/being the contactable one because due to his family name we regularly have issues with the passport office, and so he was ready to have the debate (again!) to get ds' name on the passport correctly.

so he really shoudl have been looking out for the letter. which was in a pile, with all the other uninteresting post like bills Hmm

Silverfrog I think you're husband is actually my husband - which means we can get him arrested for bigamy!!!! Then there will be no Germany!!!! Mwahhahhaha - we need a scary face picture.

Oh silver, that is pants.

We applied 18 months ago for Dd2's first passport (standard application!) and got it back within a week. Was shocked.
Hope you can get it sorted with the faster service.

I am not sure what the deal is with british passports - but I know in NZ you can pay more to do an urgent one . I think there are a couple of options - 1 day or slightly longer.... Can you do that here?

Report
silverfrog · 22/11/2012 20:42

there are fast track options, but the onl one of those availble for a first application is the one-week service, and we don't even have enough time for that sadly.

I am more or less resigned to not going, but it is a real bummer. we last went out there 2 years ago, and have been talking about going back ever since.

oh well. life goes on I guess.

Cant you go? and leave DH at home? It would be a good break for you at his expense Grin >>>>>

Report
silverfrog · 22/11/2012 20:52

can't leave ds, coff33 - he's only 16 weeks, and exclusively bf.

so if he stays, I stay.

otherwise I'd be at the airport waiting already

Yeah, I did for the girls, but we don't even have so much as a bottle in the house...

And to be fair, it is dh's family we were off to visit, not mine.

Am still majorly pissed off though.

So would I be as it is absolute pants..

ok ummm so he goes but he owes you and DS a shopping trip! after all there is now no cost for a passport and no cost as to airfare LOL Grin

Report
silverfrog · 22/11/2012 22:18

I am definitely owed a shopping trip Grin

sady not saved any money on the airfares, as they are already booked. and ds will need a passport regardless, so no money saved there - although will claim back my paltry £8.50 or whatever it is from the post office for their check&send service that clearly went awry Hmm

am contemplating visiting old friends next weekend, but will have dd1 with me too, and can't really justify the expense - hotel, travel etc.

tempting though.

Just tell him to justify it or.............................does he want to be reminded of this BIG hic cup for the rest of his living days Grin

Report
silverfrog · 22/11/2012 22:28

no, seriously, I have spent shedloads (relatively) on stuff for me over the last couple of months, as have bought up some personal mementoes from my youth/school days.

hey ho. local shopping weekend it is Grin

to be fair to dh, he would be perfectly happy for me to have a shopping weekend, but we really should be spending it on the house at the moment.

could happen all too easily in this house too, major sympathies. Is it worth trying for the one wk service and hoping it might come faster than usual? hope you get someone v. helpful on phone tomorrow.

I would be tempted to try the one week service. We did it, went to the office to apply and the new passport was with us in two days!! This was in AUG!

I have the perfect solution - leave that absolutely gorgeous bundle of joy with ME, of course you wont get him back again Grin I can't get over how lovely he is.

As for DH Angry I wouldn't have stopped shouting yet... and crying - then shouting and telling him his fortune. Anyone able to hold down his job can open his own fucking mail and DEAL with it ...Grrrr.

What time shall I pick DS up?

Make DH ring the passport office first thing tomorrow and GROVEL GROVEL GROVEL - tell him to cry if he has to, but not to get off the phone until he's fixed this. They can do a passport quicker than that. One woman on MN even managed to get some other paperwork to take her baby on a flight in less than 48 hrs. Can't find the thread though, think it was in chat.

Dh has the numbers and will be phoning tomorrow. I have enough to do, what with the non-sleeping baby and all.

Chipping - you are entirely welcome to ds between the hours of 11pm and 8am. He is absolutely gorgeous, and just loves his cuddles, and won't be put down at all. He has managed a total of 80minutes not in physical contact with me so far tonight....

When I spoke to dh in the evening he tried to claim he didn't know there was a pile of letters waiting for him. This would be despite him talking to me about the topmost item...

We'll see what he manages to get done tomorrow. He really is desperate that we can't all go (possibly not least because how on earth is he supposed to explain it it out looking like, erm, oh yes, a twunt).

Chipping - just for you, there are a couple of updated photos of ds.

Do not be fooled - the boy is a non-sleeping demon Grin
