Can anyone point me in the direction of good, impartial advice about medicating children with ritalin? The educational psychologist and SENco think that dd1 may benefit from taking this. When I google, I get an overwhelming amount of info and plenty of scaremongering. Where do I get the best info to make an informed decision?

Hi yeahbut,

No advice, just sympathy, but and can suggest that you post this over on the special needs board. It get looked at more that this one, so im sure you would get more advice over there.

Ds's friend has been much better since he has been on it. I will ask ds later what the situation is with friend and whether he is still taking it - he is 17 now and started taking it when he was about 12. (they are all out ATM).

Theres a lot of hysteria out there especially in USA. So where to look to get balance and rigor- ? Up to date books on ADHD (eg Russell A Barkley, 'Take Charge of ADHD'), ADHD support groups such as Adders, and Advance, To search you may need to use its generic name Methylphenidate.
I did a similar frantic search a couple of years ago when medication was suggested but do not have the links! Good luck. For our son medication has helped.
