Hi All...Just wondering if anyone has experience of this...I'm concerned about ds2 who's 6, yr 2 but youngest in year. He's bright, very articulate with great vocabulary, artistic but really struggling with maths. Some days he seems to understand simple concepts, other days not at all. Is not grasping 2+3 = 3+2, counting in 2"s, but can do 5"s & 10"s and frequently writes numbers back to front, and double digits are mirror images..so back to front and reversed!!!! Any thoughts? TIA....

mmm, he sounds within normal range to be honest. I don't know how you would tell the differencebetween dyscalcula and 'doesn't have a flair for maths' but when I helped out in Y2 I did come across nearly a third of the class were at the same level as your ds.
Have you spoken to the teacher about it? Maybe he needs osme extra support?

Thanks NMC...Spoke to the head today she said they are already aware and are monitoring...I'm finding it so hard to judge as DS1 is a maths whizz!..Maths is never going to be DS2's thing, but just wanted to find out if thats because he doesn't like it or can't do it...IYKWIM. Anyway thanks again...
