DS2 is 9, and profoundly dyslexic.

He had a horrible time at school, and we started home educating him 2 years ago.

When he left school he could just about spell his own (4 letter) name, but would often get the letters the wrong way round, or in the wrong order.

Despite knowing all his jolly phonics sounds and symbols, he could not read.

He used to shake with fear when asked to read out loud.

He recognised just six letters of the alphabet, and only the numbers 5 and 6.

Anyway....... tonight he has written me a letter.

It reads:

'It is neerley holidey tim. I have ay brilent ideer. We can go to Odeen Sinamar, and I can pay for popcorn mayself. Lots of love DS2'.

(It is nearly holiday time. I have a brilliant idea. We can go to Odeon Cinema, and I can pay for popcorn myself).

A very big achievement from a little boy who refused to give up.

Fabulous.
Even though it's not spelt right, it reads perfectly phonetically.
Well done to him!
Thanks for the advice on moving ds into the autistic base.
All my worries were sorted, he'll be moved if things are not right and he'll get all the support he needs.

Brilliant - so brilliant that we certainly didn't need your translation, DB!

That's great news - I hope he settles in well and has a lovely time.

Thanks, Blu - I wasn't sure whether to translate or not.
