I have 2 children. The older one is being assessed for asd. If he has asd its certainly very mild. The whole assessment was started by the school who had concerned.
I am more concerned about my youngest. He is 8 nearly 9. He cannot concentrate or sit still if he is sitting he will position himself near a door or drawer and proceed to open and close these with his feet. It drives me insane if I ask him to stop he will for around 5 seconds and it starts again.
He can't clean himself properly after going to the loo. On the last few occasions there has been poo all over the seat and I have had to shove him in the shower as its beyond a toilet paper matter.
He wipes his hands in his hair. Sometimes I have noticed his hair smelling of urine where I think he has perhaps wiped them after having a wee! He will do this with food as well. Not rubbing food in his hair but if he has eaten finger foods or chips rather than use the napkin supplied he will wipe the grease in his hair!
He needs prompting for every action related to dressing/ grooming. I have to stand there and say socks pants tshirt. If I leave him to it he doesn't get dressed. There will be an elastic band which has caught his attention.
He is also very young for his age. He will still watch cbeebies and play imaginative games with 4 year olds than join in with his peer group. His speech is still quite babyish in sound too.
I did go to my gp. Camhs suggested he was fine (without seeing him) and suggested I try parenting classes (!)
I asked the school about referral to the ed psych... but she is too busy.
where do I turn?
The school have put him on a register about his emotional well being as he has regular meltdowns if he can't complete his work. .but won't refer to ed psych.
