My son has recently been assessed as having development coordination disorder, aka dyspraxia. I've been raising issues at school all the way through and been fobbed off so I'm feeling pretty shit about things. His handwriting is dire and he's getting very angry as he is so frustrated.
Where do I go from here?
I'm now panicking about secondary school as the local school is 1400 kids which seems huge for a child who can't remember his jumper. Trying to keep calm about the fact he has two years more at primary school to try to get some support in place.
He'll obviously be getting an IEP. Does he need a statement to get a keyboard?
Help!

No he shouldn't need a statement but a recent EP report plus regular classroom use of laptop should enable the school to give access arrangements for controlled assessments and exams . ds ' SENCO is about to assess his speed of typing vs writing to decide if eh can use laptop and have extra time in GCSE exams next year or if it is either/or.

Do I have to provide the laptop or is this something the school should do? SMT are obviously already taking up their tight budget before the EP report is even in :(.
He needs to learn to touch type, doesn't he?

ds has always had one made available at school , but they weren't state schools so may differ. Touch typing should come first and that can be on a desktop pc anyway.
