So I took the big step of going to my first class yesterday evening. today is my first day on Slimming World. Need to desperately lose weight. I am 10 stone 12 lbs and need to get down to 8 stones.

For breakfast I had 2 Weetabix and a sliced banana with some of my milk allowance. For lunch I have made a salad with egg, tomato, rocket and ham with a fat free dressing. Work in an office so have brought it with me.

I am going to try my hardest and need some hand-holding. I think I also need to change my Mumsnet name Smile

Wish me luck!

Good luck mummy - I am on my third week and have lost 5lbs already.

What I have done is: go onto the SW website, go through all the recipes, print off the ones that I like and put them all in a folder. Sort out 7 meals in advance so I don't have to think every day about what I am going to cook. Shop accordingly.

I haven't touched bread etc. or margarine for nearly 3 weeks, but have discovered I love baked potatoes for lunch.

Danceparty - that is great. Good idea about the recipes. I shall definitely do that. Thanks for the advice.

Good luck! i have done SW before with online membership but wasn't really very serious about it, I'm now on day 5 of a serious concentrated effort before holiday (15 days away). I like SW and it really works. I find being really organised and planning what I'm going to eat helps. I also find that not eating much bread makes me feel much better, less bloated, which helps keep me going. As well as having treats with syns I try to use them to improve some meals by e.g. adding some parmesan to risotto as it really does taste much better and I don't feel like I am missing out.

Watching with interest as I am thinking of joining SW. What's the first meeting like? Does everyone know your weight?

Hi chocsaway - no one knows your weight apart from the person weighing you and the group leader. The group leader will only ever make reference to total weight lost, so it's up to you if you ever want to share the information with others. I joined SW end of Aug last year and am nearly 4st lighter. The first few months the weight just dropped off, since January it's been a longer process and I've plateaued many many times, and when I look at my progress in my book, I've only lost 1st since end of January. The way of eating has just become second nature though now and I can't imagine going back to my old bread, butter and chocolate habit. I've joined a gym this week as I need that extra push to get me to target weight.

Good luck OP. I have lost 3 stone since December, still another 1.5 stone to go.

My biggest tip is not getting too overwhelmed at the start. I remember my first food shop after i'd started SW - I cried in the middle of Asda as I didn't know what I was doing. Read your books and download the app - it's surprisingly how quickly that it 'clicks' in your head and you know what's what.

This is great to read as it's helping me no end. So inspiring to read how much you've all lost! Is SW hard? Do you get cravings?

Hello!
I'm starting slimming world tomorrow - online membership. Have around 5 stones to lose, hoping it will help with fertility too as ttc no1.
Seems like a good regime - hubby and I like big portions and pasta / potatoes so should be easy to stick to. Just got to be prepared!
Good luck!

It's not hard once you gte your head round it. And yes I still sometimes get cravings, but it's not a problem - anything naughty can be synned. NOTHING is banned! As long as you count naughties as syns.

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm on Day 5 and it is going well. Not feeling hungry which is a bonus. I need to be a bit more creative with my meals though!

I've just come from my first SW meeting :) Have been thinking about going for a while so I'm glad I can now say I'm on my way to my target weight! Similar to to you mummy I'm currently 10st 10lbs, target weight 8st 7lbs. Hoping for a nice big drop in the WI next week to really help me think it's possible !

Congratulations. I joined a couple of months ago and have lost just over a stone.

I do think taking your own lunch to work is a major part, that way you have total control rather than guessing in a shop!

I joined Tuesday, I have 2 and a half stone to shed. I did it a few years ago and got down to nine stone fell of the wagon and put it all back on plus a stone.

My problem is (was) I didn't eat enough, when I did it was crap with too big portions, and far too many sweets. I go to Greece on 19 September and am determined to at least shed a stone by then.

Hi, can I join? Have done SW before and lost 3 and 1/2stone and got to target, but since having dd aged 4 have put back on 2 stone and feel like a right porker.
Dd starts school in September so will have more time to exercise, and there is a SW class on a Monday morning I can get to, plan to join next week.
