dd nearly 3, if she naps in the day, 1 to 1 1/4hrs max, she wont got to bed til closer to nine and takes longer to nod off, but doesnt get crappy in the late afternoon

if she has no nap or justa doze in car if we are out, shes out like a light 8.15pm,
in both caes still wakes 7 / 7.30.

should i start to drop it now completely, as i like to have child free hours from 8.30 on in the evening.

why don't you let her have a short nap (say half an hour) just so that she isn't grumpy... but she'll go to bed a bit earlier

If she's happy during the day without having a nap (ie doesn't get cranky in the afternoon without it) then I'd drop it - the fact that she's then ready for bed at a decent time and sleeps well at night would suggest to me that she doesn't need it any longer. My dd didn't nap at all in the day from about 18 - 20 months old so I'm probably not the best person to give an opinion, though!

DD1 started refusing a daytime sleep from about 2.3 and initially was grumpy late afternoon, but no amount of persuasion (except the car) would get her to lie down and snooze.

But give a little time, and they get used to the longer day, and the upside is that they go to bed earlier

And also, I still insist of "quiet time" where she sits still and watches some telly for an hour or so, and this is still my time for getting chores done - and also gives a little rest time during her very active days!

catbert the quiet time is a good idea, i noticed she did that yesterday herself.
she hates being woken from the nap!!!
