My baby is 6mths old today and I was wondering whether now is a good time to put him in his own room. The only thing is he isnt sleeping through yet and im worried that I am not going to hear him on the monitor or until hes absolutely screaming. Im so knacked lately I could sleep through ne thing.

I'm sure you will hear him cry, however tired you are. When ds first moved into his own room I used to have the monitor so loud I could here him move around in the cot. As a result I used to wake up all the time, so I turned it down to the lowest setting and was easily able to hear him cry. Now (ds is 12 months) I don't have it switched on at all and I always hear him if he really does cry.

We moved ds1 to his own room at 6 months and I slept so much better because wasn't being woken up with all those baby grunts and snuffles that make you think they are going to wake up and they don't. Didn't seem to make any difference to him at that age.

My ds went into his own room at 10 weeks old. I know that he was very young but he wouldnt settle in his moses basket and preferred the much larger cot which would not fit through the door into my room.
We would have the monitor on even though he was in the next room and I always heard him. We never looked back, he settled better and so did we as a result. Good luck!

We always had our ds in a separate room from the moment he came out of hospital at 2 days. there wasn't enough room in ours for a moses basket so he went straight into a cot. Everything was fine, we have a small upstairs so didn't need a baby monitor.

My DS lasted in our room for 3 very sleepless nights . I couldnt sleep through noises I had been in hosp for a while so was used to him being atached to my bed in see through cot. We live in a single story log cabin so he then went o the lounge which was only about 6 foot away but it made such a difference. He went into his room at about 4 months. Dont worry u ont sleep through monitor. We never use ours as we can hear him without and with monitor i could hear every whisper
