7mo getting overtired during day, what's CC all about?

Hi there,

My 7mo dd used to be a fairly good sleeper during the day, used to sleep half hour in the morning, 2 hours at lunchtime and half an hour in the afternoon and then go to bed about 6.30pm and wake between 6.30 - 8.

She's now started waking about 5 / 5.30 going back to sleep about 7 for an hour and then her sleep in the day is all over the place, today she slept for half an hour at 11.30 and then half an hour at 2.15. She's quite grumpy and I can see she's tired and doesnt like it when I leave her.

Can someone tell me what controlled crying is - is it just leaving her to cry until she settles? I did try this once but couldnt bear it (left her for half an hour).
