Sleep

How many hours does/did your 5 and a half year old sleep?

Hi, DD1 goes to sleep at about 7.30 pm and is currenly waking at about 515- 5.30am. Doubly cruel as DD2 has just started sleeping through until 6.30 ish.

I just wondered if ten hours is normal for her age (I suppose they won't sleep 12 hours forever) or is she not getting enough fresh air and running about?

Thank you.

Goodness, my DS1 sleeps from about 7:30 to 7am. Maybe he gets up in the night and looks at books, though, dunno.

well, she may only need 10 hours, everyone is different but at her age you can give her a clock and tell her to stay in bed/room till certain time or if you think she can cope allow her downstairs to get juice and watch telly.

Another one for 7:30-7, sometimes a bit earlier (but we have toleave for school by 7:55 so I'm not that fussed). 5:30 is rather early? Could it be fluid related ie desparate for the loo therefore wakes up and stays awake?

I have boys so lack of rrunning about has never been a problem.

7.30 - 6am (or sometimes earlier)

some children do just naturally wake early. My 5 year old has always always done this and we have tried everything to change it. When he started school it went to 6.30/45 for a bit but it's definitely in his nature to be an early riser.

DS is 5.5 and if he gets into a pattern of sleeping by 7.30 he will be awake by 5.30 - not on in this house so he now usually goes to bed at 8 and is asleep by 8.30.

(Well that's the plan but it is sometimes 8.30 bed and asleep by nine).

If asleep by 8.30 is awake around 7.

If asleep later wakes a bit later or has to be woken for school.

8.00-7.00am- would probably sleep an extra hour if his older brother didn't wake him.

I can imagine being able to sleep for 10 and a half hours Suzy. Unfortunately, imagining is as far as I get....

7.00 til anywhere between 5.30 and 7.30 here (aged 2)

Am the same as you Elf! DS2 quite happily sleeps 7.00pm - 7.30am but DS1 who is 3.8 is up between 5.00 and 5.45 no matter what time he goes to bed. It's an endless cycle of him being awake too early, getting really cranky by midday, him falling asleep either in the car or if he's getting really stupid and overtired me putting him to bed for a nap [blush at his age] then of course he's up early again! It makes no difference at all whether he has a late night or early night, if he run around a lot or not, or if he has a nap in the day.

I'm really really knackered with it!!

From 7.30pm to about 8am - I usually have to drag her out of bed to get her up for school.

And yes, I realise that I am very, very lucky

Mmm interesting. She seems to go in phases. But it does seem there are some wonderfully good sleepers out there as well as a few early risers. We've tried the rabbit ears clock as she can't tell the time yet but she hates the loud noise it makes when they pop up (!!) so she doesn't really like that. Shame, as it was £20.00! Anyway it was good to hear about other dcs, thanks.
