4 month old waking up wriggling in pain

Hi - my 4 month old has started writhing around in the early hours - she'll go to sleep fine at about 8, then (usually) feeds at 2 and 4 - after which she'll start wriggling around, having a spasm every 5 minutes or so. Doesn't sound so bad, but last week she did this from midnight for 3 nights in a row!...
It's not enough to wake her up screaming, but if I leave her to deal with it she will wake up after a while - If I hold her hand and and pat her, or let her sleep on my chest, I can keep her asleep, but that means I'm awake all night, boo...
It looks like her tummy is hurting her but I don't think it's wind.... could it be a mild form of silent reflux?

I was hoping to get some tips as my 4 mt old is also doing this, but there's no pattern to it. sometimes its early evening. the other night about 10 ish and the night before 1.30 - 4.30...!!!!
I think it might be colic as I have heard that babies can suffer from this later on even though the norm is upto 3 mths. Maybe try Infacol or Colief (expensive). If she's bringing up milk a while after feeding that sounds like reflux so infant Gaviscon may help, need to get a perscription from GP for this... hope this helps....!!!

watty - my ds never suffered from colic or, as far as I am aware, reflux so it is funny how all our 4mth olds are doing the same thing. Maybe it is just a developmental thing? Mine seems a little better today but still fussing at some feedings and chucked up a load at lunchtime feed . He seems suddenly really windy and frequently blows off (or 'pops' as we call it in our house!) during the night. Let me know how your lo's are doing.... nightnight.....

had awful nt waking up again between 1.30 - 4.30 so am now taking her to a cranial osteopath which has been recommended, luckily managed to get a cancellation for today so will let u know how it goes. The only other thing which may be a coincidense is that she started doing this after she had her 2nd lot of injections...!!

good luck with the docs....

My 4 month old is also doing exactly the same. Started around Christmas time. I think she is teathing but I thought it was her eczema getting itchy. When she's awake she's fine though so I'm wondering if she's also got this 4 month bug that your children seem to have! She went from waking once in the night for a feed to feeding maybe two or three times a night and still waking every hour or so writhing and squeeling, not a proper cry as such. When we pop the dummy in she makes a weird grunty noise behind it (like she's straining). Odd. I'll watch your thread with interest

mine still doing no more than 2 hrs between wakings feel very down, tired and weepy today . does it stop by itself or should we be doing something to stop the waking habit? so pissed off as ds was doing 7 - 10hrs a few weeks ago

Just been to the docs - she didn't really have any answers either! She did say that if she seems to settle after a feed it could be mild reflux, but was reluctant to prescribe anything (good) without more evidence.. so we're monitoring things to see how it goes.
Watty... yes she did start doing this after her 2nd set of jabs... could be just an age thing tho?
Or perhaps they're all just totally sick of listening to the rain lashing down and the wind rattling the windows and are dreaming of lying in the garden in the sun for a wriggle. Or is that just me?

Mine hasn't had her second lot of injections yet so there isn't any connection there for us. I've discovered tonight that she has threadworm after being in contact with a family that has them whose DD (week younger than mine) is also awake all night and showing some signs of uncomfortableness. Not sure if worms cause any kind of discomfort other than an itchy bot. Could be a connection or is it a coincidence?

Hi!
DS now 8 months developed what seemed to be wind issues at 8 weeks the night after his first lot of injections.
I used a dummy to help soothe him and get him back to sleep.
Then the wind/colic disappeared but he was used to waking and the dummy - boo!
Got desperate and not good at crying thing so he now sleeps in a baby hammock which has really helped him develop better sleep habits.
Not looking forward to going back to the cot!
Good luck and the wind thing does go with time.

Wriggling stopped all of a sudden 3 nights ago, to be replaced by waking up every hour and a half for a feed! Lucky me!
Figure it must be a developmental thing, or related to her teething....

Last night mine woke almost every hour. She wasn't doing the writhing thing this time either but there was definately something up. Just wish I knew what it was, nothing seemed to settle her and she must have fed three or four times, I lost count. I'm really pining my hopes on her settling once she starts weening but I'm probably kidding myself

Watty mine went to the Osteopath today and has so far slept really really badly!! What do you think to the O'path? Load of mumbo jumbo? I can't decide.
