Hi,

This is the first time i have posted a message so please bear with me!!
I think i am lucky to be able to say that my 5 week old is quite a good night time sleeper. He is being put down to bed at around 8pm whilst still awake when the first signs of sleep are seen and generally puts himself to sleep quite quickly. I then feed him between 10 and 11pm when he takes most of his bottle he will then wake about every 4 hours for a sleep.
I am now trying to work on his daytime sleeps and am trying desperately to make him sleep in his moses basket again putting himself to sleep however it seems he wont sleep in the daytime unless he is being held or in his pushchair or car seat. I have tried shussh, pat but whenever i stop he wakes a couple of minutes later.
Should I worry and keep trying or leave it until he is older and be glad that he is a good sleeper at night the way he is.

Sorry for such a long message!!!

Leave it till he's older.

He is still very young, too young to understand or form bad habits. They cant develope "habits" before 12 weeks apparently. Cuddling a baby to sleep is amazing, but the opportunity to do so fades fast so enjoy while you can

Hi, first message for me too.

My son is 8 and a half weeks old & is gradually getting into a routine, although no chance of going down in his Moses basket before 10pm.

During the day, he will not sleep at all in his cot or Moses basket - I think because he's lying flat.

However, today he has slept from 5am until now in his chair, waking only for feeds. This is contrary to his behaviour over the last week, when much more active.

Is he just catching up on naps (!), or should I be concerned? Advice gratefully received.

newborns change constantly....just when you think you have cracked it, they have a growth spurt or something happens,, and the routine changes.....try to go with the flow and let them find their own way....take your cues from the baby ...they will let you know when they are tired/ hungry/ windy etc......

we, as grown ups, have sleepy days, hungry days, unsettled days...so do babies.!!! don;t panic if each day is different , especially the first few weeks...

Thank you for the advice

It's so easy to worry or to start second guessing yourself when so inexperienced. Here's hoping he's not up all night....!

Thanks for advice and reassurance, I think you can end up reading too much and driving yourself mad!!!
