Sleep

Which book would you recommend

Hi there,
Breast feeding 3 week old DD and wondering when I will ever sleep again. DD falls asleep on the boob but I want to try and establish an easier sleep routine. I know 3 weeks is a bit young to be doing this but I've read some threads and don't want to be breast feeing her to sleep when she is 15 months old. I don't think I could handle that!
Which book would you recommend for establishing a routine and for encouraging my baby to sleep for more than 30 minutes.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

hi - you will sleep again but at this age they need to feed a lot. The best book i read was the baby whisperer but as with all books etc choose the bits that work for you and ignore the rest. with such a little baby the best thing to do is give her a good feed, take her off the breast and let her "play" for a few mins. Then swaddle and lay her down. At this age they can't stay awake for long at all and it is easy to over stimulate so keep it all quite low key.

ncss is good for cosleeping which is why we used it as all the over books tended to say we'd created our own problem!

the no cry sleep solution (ncss) is great because it explains how sleep works in infants and how it changes as babies approach their first year. if nothing else, read it to understand how sleep works in babies and make your decisions from there as to what is acceptable or not for your baby. you will probably find that what you hope to to at this age and what you will do at 15 months to be quite different.

elizabeth pantley also has a website which you can visit before committing to the book.

pantley

i also highly recommend this site for a reading from time to time as you find the time and to visit its many highly informative links.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll give The Baby Whisperer and No Cry Sleep Solution a try first and see how it goes.
