Keeping the right room temperature

We've just put our DS into his own room to sleep and I keep worrying about the temperature. When I put him to bed it was 20 degrees so I was worried he'd be too hot, but when I got up in the night with him it was only 14 degrees and his hands were freezing (although his neck and chest still felt quite warm). I've put the radiator on low to try and keep a constant temperature but as the weather is getting cooler it doesn't seem to work! He sleeps in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag with a sleepsuit and vest underneath. Does anyone have any ideas of how to keep a room a constant temperature of around 18 degrees or am I worrying too much and it doesn't matter that much if the temperature varies?!

14 degrees sounds a bit too low IMO. Variations around 17-19 degrees would be fine in my book.
When you say you put the radiator on low, is that just adjusting its flow rate or do you have proper thermostats on them?
You could consider fitting a good thermostat to your ds' radiator to give you peace of mind - if it is compatible with your central heating system.
cold snap is due to end soon apparently!

I dont worry as long as master piggie has enough bedding, he has some fleece babygros that cover his hands (i put over his normal gros)
The wat i see it babies were born before ch was invented.

Hi - we've been going down to 16 degrees the last couple of nights - our dd (17 weeks) has a long sleeve vest and a sleepsuit (or cat-suit as dh calls them) in a 2.5 bag - and although hands were freezing she was pretty snug inside and slept ok. I think it's better to be on the cool sude rather than too hot in terms if sids. I am going to try "cat-suit" with hand covers tonight to make me feel better. There's no way our CH system could keep the temp stable overnight so we don't bother.

Thank you. It doesn't seem to bother him too much, its just me who wakes up and has to go and make sure he's ok (I suppose that's quite normal for new mums!)
