My dd has had a dummy to sleep since about 4 weeks (in bed only). Now she's bigger she's started to pull it out as soon and then cry and cry for me to put it back. I've tried going cold turkey about four days ago - it's bearable at night time as she's often half asleep when I put her back in her cot, but in the day time she just screams and screams and only calms down if I give her my finger to suck on. It probably doesn't help that she's got a cold.

I caved in today and gave it to her afer lots of crying because I was so tired after being up all last night with coughing and I felt so sorry for her! I soon wished I hadn't though cos she just pulled it out again!

I hate to just leave her to cry for ages, - she seems to just work herself up into such a frenzy.

Does anyone have any advice or had a similar experience? I'd be really grateful for any tips or general moral support!

put it in her hand and show her how to put it back in her mouth - she has probably realised how to pull it out but can't put it back in herself . My little boy used to do this all the time and then one day realised he could put his dummy back in himself as well!!!
