Hi

My son was one last week and was a perfect sleep. He would go from 7-6 almost every night but for the past 7 days he's become a different child.

He goes to bed no problem at all but he's started waking up at 1am screaming hysterically. For the first couple of nights id feed him, he would be a wake for a while but then went back to sleep no problem but the past two nights has been a nightmare.

When waking at 1am he would scream I would go in lie him back down and do this for an hour. An hour later still screaming I put him in my bed he was still crying but not as bad as when he was in his cot. Eventually after 2-3hrs he would fall asleep on me.

He has never ever slept in my bed before and he would never want to so It can't be that he wants to be with us.

He has a lot to eat in the day and a big bottle before bed.

Any ideas??????

Thank you

My DD was a bit unsettled around 1yo too - I think it was a combination of teeth and emerging separation anxiety. I made sure she was Nurofen'ed or Calpol'd up and tried to stick as closely as possible to what we would normally do, whilst reassuring her that we were still here.
So, if she really protested at being left alone I would cuddle her for a while til she calmed down, then put her in her cot and lay beside her for half an hour (or longer if needed). If there really was nothing wrong with her after that I would go out and let her cry for a bit - but we're talking 10mins max here, no longer and I wouldn't let it go so far that she was back to being really distressed. More often than not she'd stop crying fairly quickly.
On perhaps 3 occasions she's ended up sleeping with me - and on those occasions she was clearly genuinely upset about something (dream? teeth? generally poorly? who can tell?!)
I hope he gets better soon.
