Any tips for a baby thrashing around so much they wake themself up?

My 7 month old is in a large cot in her own room.

She has slept from 7pm -7am from 8 weeks old without ever waking, she would stir occasionally if she had shifted around and hit the bars, but never fully woke herself up. We would nip in to move her back, which wouldn't bother her.

Recently she has started thrashing around, turning her body all the way around and also moving to the opposite end of the cot. She does this because the force of her legs banging the mattress moves her, she can't roll over yet. Her legs and arms are slipping through the bars, she is making a lot of noise banging her feet and arms on the cot (loud enough that I imagine next door can hear). She is waking us up hourly making these banging noises, and has started to wake herself up and cry. She has become very difficult to settle back into a deep sleep and continues to wake through the night.

I know it's a long shot, but any ideas stop this or settle her down when she is waking? Or has anybody else experienced similar behaviour? Did it last long? Thank you!

My dd has started doing this but she's a bit younger at 4.5 month's. She will literally thrash and move around the cot so much she wakes herself and we spend an hour settling her. We found if we put her in a sleeping bag it restricts Her movement slightly and also bought a breathable bumper that goes all way sound cot so softens the banging. My oh always asks if it's normal her thrashing like this but by looking at other threads it seems so!! X

I still swaddle my 7 month old (loosely) when he does this.

I know it's not helpful but it is a faze. She will stop soon. I found mine to be very unsettled around this time due to weaning etc. now he sleeps soundly. Breathable bumpers sound like a good idea. Google Airwrap bumpers.

We had this around the same age, but he did learn to rescue himself.
I looked into a safe cot bumper but I ordered one, it was out of stock, and he stopped before they got it back in!

You can get a breathable mesh to put round to help with this

We use a Montessori style floor bed with a bed rail- basically a single mattress on the floor with the other side against the wall so DS can't role off it. He wriggles and thrashes all over the shop in his sleep but has tonnes of room. I know it seems unconventional but cots are just way too small for some babies- needs must.
