Sleep

Can anyone recommend a bedside cot.

May 9 week old is a co-sleeper and won't have it any other way so I think it's time to give up hope hope that he'll start sleeping in his Moses basket (sob - I spent hours making it and lining it myself).
We don't have a big bed so as he's getting bigger and more wriggly it's becoming a bit of a tight squeeze. I think a bedside cot could be the answer as it would give us some much needed extra space and hopefully when the time us right he can start to sleep a little further away from me.
Most of them seem to be really expensive and they don't seem to be stocked in any shops. Ideally we'd like to see one before we buy.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience of using one? I specifically want one that can be used as a cot on its own later so that when he's got used to it we can gradually move it away from our bed.
I think some people use a regular cot and take a side off. Any experiences of doing this would be good to hear.

We've got the ikea cot. About £60? Can be used as a cot or cot bed and we're using it as a cosleeper.

The Ikea £15 cheapie is fairly stable with the side taken off, and can be cable-tied to most beds I think? Just make sure there's a towel down the side away from the bed so the mattresses abut and he can't fall down the gap!

This is mine, it works really well for me.

We had a bednest for ds but at 9 weeks already I doubt you'd get much more use out of it for the money. For dd I adapted a compact cot from kiddicare - just measured and drilled extra holes (and believe me I am rubbish at DIY) for the base so that it is the same height as our enormous superking divan bed :) oh, and obviously left one side off. I remember worrying about the minute gap between the mattresses. In reality I just shove them back together when I remember, and I certainly don't worry that chunky dd will fall down the gap!

Mind you, at nearly 4 months she is already getting a bit too big for the cot and we may have to move her into the cotbed sooner than we planned.

You can rent a Bednest - we did. Saved a lot of money. You may still get 4 months use from it as it lasts about 6/7
months so could be worth doing. x

Ikea gulliver though I lucky enough to be given a bedside cot.

Or you could do what I will do next time and buy a super king size mattress and put on floor or even a double on the floor in baby's room.

I have one of those babies. Still clinging to me all night at 20months!

I have the chicco 'next2me' cosleeper cot. We started using it when dd was about 8wks and meant to last till 6mths which should happen, tho def would not for a bigger than average baby. Side comes down and straps to side of bed with clips that can be undone to move it (eg when changing the sheets) or can stand alone with side up, also can fold flat and has a travel bag so we are taking it with us when we go away as travel cot.. £149 so cheaper than some.. Not quite ikea bargain tho! :)

We have the Troll bedside cot (the full-size one, not the crib they also do). Pricy but great - nice high sides and the fourth side rolls back rather than coming off, so can be put back into place if needed without removing the cot.

We're using the bednest and like it. You can do a shorter rental from them if he's already 9 weeks. Think its about £80 including delivery, collection and new mattress. With both sides up it's a regular crib.
