Anyone here use a sleepyhead with 6months and older?

Does anyone here have a sleepyhead? I am starting to consider getting one in the hope that it may encourage my crazy roller to lie still in his bed and therefore actually go to sleep...

Has anyone used one with an older rolling, crawling baby?

Also, can anyone tell me what the sides are made of? Is it hollowfibre padding like in a pillow? I am wondering if I could recreate the effect(ish) by putting something like rolled cellular blankets under his cotsheet to test it just for one nap (and stay in the room to be sure he's ok!!) because they are so expensive I don't want to buy one and find it doesn't work at all.

It's not got very high sides so I think an older roller would just roll straight over them. It's like a pregnancy body pillow but with a thin layer of material in the middle, if you see what I mean? We borrowed one for our startling newborn but didn't help. Good luck!

hmm, ok thanks. That's what I suspected might happen!

Hi Ellie

DD2 has been in a sleepyhead from 6 weeks and it has been great - before that she would only sleep on my chest. It wasn't an overnight miracle worker (sadly!) but it really helped transition her off me bit by bit. It has definitely also really helped with stopping her rolling. She's only slept without it a few times and has definitely woken more through rolling around and bumping herself on the bars.

However, she is now 6 months and really is too big for it - although she is quite long. So I suspect you wouldn't get much use out of one unless your DS is on the small side. They do make a bigger version now for older babies but they are really expensive. I'm now debating whether to get one for DD2 who needs to move into the big cot or whether to just get bumpers.

I would definitely give blankets a try out under the sheet and see if it makes a difference. If you were particularly handy with a sewing machine you could probably make your own version of a sleepyhead - its basically a tube of hollow fibre material in a U-shaped cover.
