Sleep

Rolling repeatedly

Our DS is 7.5 months and has slept happily on his front since 6 months - before that we co slept. He has been rolling over in his cot for a week or so, from his front to his back, a few times a night. He keeps getting stranded as he can't yet roll back, wakes himself up and starts crying as he hates sleeping on his back. We have been rolling him back over (he can self settle on his front but not his back) but we can't carry on doing it forever. We have put him down for a couple of naps on his back and he has fallen asleep but not slept as well as he does on his front. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what we can do? We have tried tucking the end of his sleeping bag under the mattress and putting rolled towels under the sheet on either side - they don't slow him down for long!

I could have written your exact post about my 5.5 month old DS. Rolls from tummy to back repeatedly and can't settle on back! Only difference is that I know my DS can roll both ways as he does it in the daytime but at night he cries until I go and turn him over! It makes no sense.

Like you, I have tried sheet over him tucked in tight and towels rolled up under a sheet.

I don't have a solution but you're not alone! I'm hoping it's a phase and normal sleep will be restored soon. At the moment I'm just turning him back over, no talking or eye contact and leaving room quickly in the hope that he'll eventually understand that it's still nighttime. He goes back to sleep quickly but then rolls again within an hour or two all through the night and then wakes very early at 5 am on his back again.

Hopefully someone will have a solution for us soon....

Hello ladies
I had a couple of weeks of this but in reverse- DD hates sleeping on her front (and can't roll herself back) yet seems biologically programmed to roll regardless!
The problem just went away by itself after I dealt with it exactly as you have (no talking, flip back and leave room) but it has re-emerged in the last few nights as DD has learned to push up on all fours as a precursor to crawling! I'm not sure much can be done until they learn to get their shit together Wink

I have just come on mums net to see if there was a thread about this my 4 month old sleeps on her front and has just figured out how to roll on her back but due to reflux can't get comfortable on back so wakes straight away startled! We found it funny first few nights now it's a pain might try towels soon if not I take it it's just perseverance!
