Ds wont sleep anywhere but his cot

Does anyone have any suggestions - ds (18 months) still wont sleep anywhere during the day except his cot...I've managed so far to fit his sleep around school runs, but now in the summer holidays its causing issues since we can never go out for the whole day...like a day trip to the zoo...he will be so shattered, and I've tried giving him some milk, his dummy and putting a dark blanket over the pushchair, but he just wont sleep...I've tried different buggy's...we end up leaving anywhere early then what I would like (and rest of family would like) because he is so irritable and whiny and tantrum throwing... Usually at home, he will sleep 2 hours happily...any suggestions would help I can't not do things out for rest of the family...:-(

No suggestions (sorry) but you're not alone! My dd (20months) has been like this for over a year now. She will NOT sleep in her buggy at all and will only sleep in the car if we drive for about 90 mins or more.
At least we'll have some freedom when she stops napping. Confused

Watching with interest. DD is heading this way. She's still (mostly) on 2 naps (at 15mo), so it's relatively easy to manage by making sure she takes one of them at home and accepting the other one will be crap/ non-existent if we're out and she's in the buggy.

She used to nap great in her pram, but since we switched to the buggy (at 12 mo) I'm lucky if she'll go for 25 mins in the buggy (and it takes a lot of pushing, with a cover over buggy, in a quiet place - i.e. not very practical)

Does he have a comforter/ soft animal he sleeps with? If so, presume you've tried that?

My next plan is to unbuckle DD once she nods off in buggy as she likes to roll around as she falls asleep in cot, so I think she struggles as she can't move positions in the buggy.

My ds is the same. He will only sleep in his cot and he is nearly 2.5. I don't really know what the solution is. I am also worried about the summer holidays as I have 2 older dc to think about. I usually let them watch tv whilst he naps at home and then we go out afterwards. He is so grumpy if he hasn't napped for at least an hour. I am hoping he will give up naps soon, so we can go out for the day.

No updates I'm afraid...today we are meeting friends for lunch, so have resorted to him sleeping now this morning, and just going to accept it might be a rough dinner/bath time with him being over tired...which also means he then wakes at 5am tomorrow...but cant live any longer with other kids around...having just one was easy - although she slept wherever - this boy is just a different child!!

I have tried his cuddly toy with dummies attached - that's what he sleeps with in his cot, ,but got no where...he will fall asleep in the car sometimes (usually when I dont want him to - very seldom when we leave at naptime for a long trip) .... I'm starting to think its just going to be lunch time prison for a year or two till he drops a nap.

:-(
