Moving from cot to bed - stick with the grobag or buy duvet and pillow?

Another thread about moving from cot to bed.... I'm going to be moving my 17 month old into a big bed in the next few weeks. She sleeps in a grobag in her cot at the moment, although it will probably only last until the next growth spurt (the 18-36 month size - she is a big girl!)

I'm not sure whether to go the whole hog and just move her straight into the bed with pillow and duvet, and let her get used to it all at once, or whether it would ease the transition if we kept her in her grobag for a while. Advice please?

hi my dd used a grow bag in cot but when we moved her we changed to duvet and pillow, to make her feel like a big girl and also incase she got out of bed it felt safer that she wouldn't trip over the sleeping bag. The first couple of nights we put the duvet back on her as we were going to bed as she had kicked them off but she soon got the hang of it and now wont sleep without even when it is hot!

Hi merrily- we have the same dilemma and are thinking about the duvet clips you can get from jojomamanbebe to make a (hopefully) happy halfway. Haven't done it yet though so this is not advice, just letting you know it's not just you! Gro bags are good at the time...

We had this problem too.
We put the pillow and duvet on her in the cot for a few weeks to get her used to them before moving into the bed. We also had to keep putting the duvet back on and our dd will not sleep without it either ! Girls!!!!

17 months is pretty little, so personally if I had to move her out of the cot I'd keep her in a grobag

If, on the other hand, I'd kept LO in a cot until nearer 3 I'd probably ditch the grobag first

Either way I'd go for only one change at a time. But that's just me.

And FWIW I thought the key thing about grobags was that the covers didn't come off them so they didn't wake up cold in the middle of the night, but when we switched ds to a duvet (thinking we might buy those clip thingys) there was never a problem...

thanks everyone. Maybe we will get the bed, have a go with a duvet and if she doesn't like it we will put her back in the grobag for a while. I've just been looking at beds, mattresses, duvets, etc - this is going to cost us a lot of money!

Thanks liquidclocks for the tip about the duvet clips, I didn't know you could get those!

I would be concerned about a toddler trying to get about in a grobag. Yes, it looks very funny and if they were good at it we could go and win all the local sack races but seems that the chances of them falling over are pretty high.
