Nap times vary

I'm having trouble with DS's naps. He's 9months old and his nap times vary by as much as 1 hour from one day to the next and I'm not sure if he'd be better off on a strict schedule because some days are easy to put him down but others are hard. The problem is related to the fact that he will wake up in the morning anytime between 5:30 and 6:30. So he gets tired anywhere from 9am to 10am. He'll typically nap 45 min to 1 hour in the AM. Then he'll get tired anywhere from 1pm to 2pm, and again he'll sleep for 45 min to 1hour. His bedtime is between 7 and 7:30pm. Do people think I'd have an easier time putting him for naps if I stuck to the same times every day despite his wake-up times being different? I'm also concerned because I'm going to start leaving him with a caregiver twice per week and as it is now, I cannot tell her when he's supposed to nap. I have certainly gotten used to his "cues" but she will not be as familiar. What would you do?
