Sleep

Baby only likes sleeping on me!

Hi, I have a 6 week old and I know it's quite normal for them to prefer sleeping on mum in the early days. However when should I start trying to put her down more? What complicates it is she has some kind of wind/reflux problem so cries a lot which means I'll do anything for an easier life and also it means holding her upright for ages after a feed is best for her.

She will sleep in her cosleeper bed at night but only if I feed her to sleep and slide her in, often with the dummy.

Should I be trying more to put her down to sleep on her own and if not, when should I try? I do have a sling (moby wrap) but she wriggles out of it or kicks off when I'm putting her in it! I need to learn how to tie it better perhaps. I'm just worried about getting to a later stage and still being like this, and people saying "oh you should have let it get to this stage"!

Shes way way way too young for bad habits! Enjoy the snuggles, she'll be off and independent soon enough

Make sure you tie the sling tightly, the fabric will stretch to support her weight :)

Not sure I can offer any advice as I've still got my nearly 21 week old ds sleeping on me. We started for the same reasons as you as he has silent reflux but didn't expect it to be a long term issue but we do all get some sleep this way. Will be interested to see responses.

I spent months doing everything right - everytime he slept putting him down, not letting him sleep on me etc. he had reflux as it turned out so sleeping flat was hurting him, hence him only wanting to be upright, on me. When his reflux improves, his sleep does too, but at 7 months he is still up every 30 mins to 2 hours all night long.
Basically - do whatever you feel is right and don't feel guilty for it. There is no right or wrong way. If you have baby sleep on you, it may be harder toget them into their cot later, but it'll only take a few days to sort and if its that or 7 months of no sleep, I know what I'd choose if I had my time again!

lem when did the reflux improve for you?

Mine will sleep for a few hours in her bed at night if fed to sleep and slipped into the cosleeper bed - she often sleeps three hour blocks and we had amazing 5 and 6 hour blocks of sleep last week when she had a settled couple of days. I wonder if that means she doesn't have reflux, just wind, or perhaps mild reflux? She is def in pain/discomfort when she has her bad days and crying sessions but I just don't know what it is!

Sorry to say we are 7 months and no sign of reflux let up yet. Does she struggle to feed t all? That is my ds biggest problem, with bad sleep coinciding with bad feeding times. He got put on ranitidine and suddenly stated sleeping at about 10 weeks, but eventually it stopped working so back to square 1.
Being sick isn't necessarily needed for reflux, but if your lo is in pain I would see the doctor to discuss symptoms and see what it could be and things that may help. Have you tried gripe water? It is great for clearing wind. X

I find reflux gets worse during teething.
My baby who slept so little to start with now sleeps 12 hours straight and naps. Unless teething.(from 12m)
Are allergies a possibility?
I think mine was allergic to soya also when bf I found windy veg a problem. But mainly parsnip and garlic and now she is weaned I still don't give parsnip.
I think usually reflux gets better when they can walk as they are upright.
Although that didn't stop mine a couple of times.
Also when they are older you don't feed then so soon before bed which seems to help
I did find tummy sleeping helped but didn't try till 6 months and obviously wouldn't recommend.
She still really only sleeps that way.
