I'm expecting baby 2 although currently only 11 weeks.
When baby arrives dd will be 20 months and we intend to put the new baby into dd's current room and we will decorate another room that will then become dd's bedroom...

Baby will sleep with us for a minimum of 6 months so we are looking at putting dd into her "new" room when she will be around 26 + months..

Now....do we buy a cot that goes into a bed or will she be in a bed..??? Is it worth buying a cot bed.? Will she get a lot of use from it..?? DD slept with us until she was 11 months so there is a possibility that baby will be the same so dd may even be 31 months when she goes into her "new" room..?

Sorry if I have confused anyone...

My ds told me when he was ready because he started throwing himself out of his cot, i think he was about 21 months, i then put him into a bed with a safety rail & we have never looked back.

my dd1 was 24 mths when dd2 was born

dd1 went into a cot about 20 months (with a bedguard) and it was fine

well i kept dd in her cot until close to 3 and had ds when she was 22mths, i borrowed a cot from friends who were finished having babies. imo and i have seen it advocated here, leave as long as possible in cot.
dont worry about the aesthetics of the room!!!

I don't rate cotbeds personally - you still have to buy a bed once the child is about 4 anyway.
You can certainly put a 2yo in a cot, tho equally ds2 (our last) was in his cot until her was getting on for 3 - he clibed out of it really well so it was fine.
If I were you I would buy dd a bed to go into when the new baby needs her cot - but make sure you do her bed first so she doesn't think the baby is "stealing" her cot IYSWIM.

We have the extendable Ikea toddler bed. It's nice and wide and he's never fallen out of it (unlike his shite narrow Mothercare cot bed).

We've shoved a playmat down the side of it near the top to make a bed guard though, just in case.

he went into it at 18 mo.

thanks everyone..looks like views differ even on cots/beds..!! TBH we don't want a bed or a cot for anoy other reason than for what suits dd iykwim. Just don't want to buy a cot that she doesn't need at x age only to fork out money for a bed..!!!

Gosh I though come x age baby now goes into a bed..looks like even with beds/cots it's all down to personal choice.

At least I know now. Thanks
