Afternoon nap issues

My 2.3 year old usually has a 1 1/2 hour nap after lunch (around 1/1.30pm) but lately he has been mucking around on his bed for hours, eg. today he is still awake now! I go and resettle him every 1/2 hour or so but this is getting ridiculous! He needs to have a nap or he gets ridiculously grouchy but it is starting to get so late that it jeopardises his bedtime. Any advice?

I have gone down the naughty mummy route and take dd out in the car to get her to sleep for her nap (she is 2.8years). I then transfer her into the buggy in the hall and let her finish her nap. She gets herself to sleep fine at bedtime and rarely wakes in the night so doing the car for naps hasnt affected her ability to self settle.

ds1 who is nearly three started foregoing afternoon naps about that age. this meant he was grumpy or he would fall asleep at tea time. He now has about 3 days were he doesnt have a nap then a few days he does. If he falls asleep late then i will wake him after 30mins as not to upset night time. HTH

ds has just dropped his, but I have at least 20 mins quiet time with him (eg lying on the bed in semi dark). don't know how long it'll be practical to keep that up! but I've also moved bedtime forward and it's not been too bad so far.
