Sleep

I know it will get better, but how long can an 8 week old go without sleep!?!?

Ds2 has just finished off his 6th consecutive day surviving on 2 or 3 tiny catnaps. He crashes (rather spectacularly with much screaming) at 6.30pm. But he just refuses to sleep during the day! And walking for hours up and down the bedroom is out - poor neglected ds1 whimpering 'please play cars with me' outside the door. I know it will all pass in the blink of an eye, but bloody hell it makes the days long!!!

Hey, if he sleeps at night then don't knock it!

You might guess from my name that we didn't really do sleep here either (day or night!), and at 21 weeks we're only just starting to show some signs of improvement!!

Cuteness is a good quality though.

You and DS1 must just be too exciting playing cars for him to stop watching

dd was like this. She didn't have a regular long daytime sleep until she was 5 months old!

You're right, it does make the day seem very long.

DD is like this (10 wks) cannot put herself to sleep at all in the day - sleeps 12am - 5am at night. Have you tried a sling (we have a babybjorn one - lots for sale on ebay) she will sleep in this on me or DH for up to 2 hours but wakes up if we take her out to put her down. At least I have the use of my hands while shes in it!! Put it in the wash the other day and it was hell - might have to buy a spare one!

Emma7 - I have one going, hardly used. DS and DD grew too quickly and it gave me backache. Make me an offer if you want it.

My DD was a nightmare with naps until she started sleeping through at 12 weeks. Gradually got better until she was sleeping 3 to 4 hours a day by 4 months. Now at 16 months, she still sleeps 2 to 3 hours a day.
Good Luck - it might just be a matter of time. To be honest I found the more I physically tried to 'help' DD go to sleep the worse it was. Eventually just put her down and left the room. Would normally cry for a minute or two but then it was quiet. Maybe too much interaction when he's tired? Just a thought.
