How to cut down on 25 wk olds feeds during the night

Hi,
My boy is 25 weeks and we have been gently weaning him for a couple of weeks (a bit of porridge, once or twice a day). He has on average 5/6 bottles of milk a day - about 180ml (but he won't always take this much). He's fed around 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 7:30pm (before bed). I try and put cool boliled water into some of his milks too.

He then wakes up for feeding at about 10:30pm, 1am, 4am and wakes for the day at 6am. We've tried withholding milk sometimes but he just goes bonkers. He sleeps in a cot in our room - maybe he's ready for going into his nursery. He'll drink full bottles at night and is difficulat to settle after 1am. We make sure we wind him. He is teething - we give calpol atc... He's always been a hyper, wiggly baby and not slept well but I think it's time to take action. He settles well at 7:30pm and has a nice routine.

Any suggestions v grateful!

I am in a very similar situation with a slightly younger LO. He's not having so much solid food yet but the milk feeds are very similar.
Please help us!

How does he sleep? My dd is the same age and now sleeps on her tummy. She is an agile roller so could easily turn if she wanted to. In the last couple of weeks If she goes on her back she will wake and need milk, on her tummy not. Maybe worth a try?

I'd up the daytime milk too - why are you adding boiled water to feeds? Seems like that will fill his tummy without giving any sustenance.

I wouldnt water down his milk in the day if I was you, he may be compensating in the night time.

Carry on with the weaning, maybe incorporate a bowl of baby rice into the bed time routine, so supper, bath, bottle, bed (or any order) this in theory should have him filled up.

May be worth getting into his own room if he is able to settle in his cot, you may be waking him up or a slight noise may make him think its wake up.

With the night feeds, do a dream feed at 10.30/11pm then if he wakes up in the night only offer water. This over a few nights will make him realise if he wakes at night he will only get water once he gets that he wont wake.

P.s when my dd wouldnt drink from a cup I took the teat off the bottle and put a straw in and she learnt that way.

Thank u for comments, really helpful. Going to move to own room next week and start offeri.g water at night - has that worked in your experience?

Up the solids a little. My son is coming up 7 months and was waking like yours until the past few weeks; we started solids and hes taken to it like a duck to water, and as a result is on three meals, and 4/5 bottles a day. Hes now waking only once in the night, much easier!

Yep with dd1, eventually she just gave up I think. As she realised she only gets 'food' during daytime. Nighttime I presume shes thirsty so I offered a drink instead and it worked.
