Why don't all babies like their cots!?

My baby loves my lap and pram but soon as u put him in the cot he cries! Any suggestions!!

How old is he? When they are just born I think they are so used to hearing all the sounds of you while they're in utero that going into a cot seems odd to them.

He's nearly 21 weeks

He loves your lap as it's warm and it's you. Loves pram as it moves which lulls him to sleep.

My DD is the same (almost 30 weeks!). Her eyes ping open as soon as I put her in cot.

My 7 mo is only really getting used to his cot now. Naps are still touch and go and tends to cosleeping from 6 am when I lose the energy to try and get him to resettle in his cot after a 5am feed. I try and put the positive spin-on it that he loves me & DP so much and was used to being inside me that he wants to be close. In nature they wouldn't be set apart. It's survival they want to feel safe. But saying that he's just dropped his spoon on the floor and cried for it!
Anyway I have got him in my leaning over and stroking him, putting him in just to play occasionally, a fisher price sea horse which distracts him and he can see me from its nightlight, warming the mattress and sneaking him when he is fast asleep (floppy arm). Things felt better when I just went with the flow- sat on sofa saved film and let him nap away. But there's nothing worse than getting trapped when you need to be out. So planning buggy travel accordingly.

Awww, my DS was the same. Would never nap in his cot in the day, only on me, in the pushchair or the car seat. The minute I moved him off me, he would wake up! Sleep specialist told me it didn't matter where they slept in the day, so long as they did! So I stopped fighting it and would walk/drive him, then bomb home so I could sit down/get on with stuff!

At around 18 months he stopped wanting to go in the pushchair so I'd drive him, then carry him in and he'd sleep on the sofa (and I could watch telly!)

Now, at 2.8 the nap is finally going, and I have to say hurrah! No more driving! I wished he would have slept in his cot but at the same time it was good to be able to leave the house!

Don't worry about it too much, your little one is still so little! Make the most of the cuddles and enjoy the walks in the sunshine (when it arrives). xx
