2yr old, how long is daytime nap?

ds is just 2, and still has 2 hrs for his nap after lunch. trouble is he then doesn't want to go to sleep until late at night. have tried waking him from the nap earlier, but boy is he in a bad mood! just wondered what the average naptime and night time length of sleep is at this age.

my dd is 22mo. She sleeps for 1-2 hours (usually 1.5) daily after lunch. Goes to bed at 7ish and wakes around 6.

DS is 32 months and I am trying to get him away from an afternoon nap. He would still go for a nap maybe twice a week for a few hours. Those nights he will not go to bed until after 10pm. which is far too late.
The other days I try to keep him active and if he get tired after 4pm I would give him a bath to waken him up.
Good luck.

Jess is almost 20 months and only has an hour - we wont let her sleep any longer because she refuses to go to bed at 7pm.

Since we cut the sleep, she now is out cold by 7.05pm!

Yes she is a grumpy moo for the first 30 mins afetr a nap, but we use that time to play on cbeebies website and she is soon off and playing happily again.

My dts are 27months, if they have a nap in the day, they go to bed and sleep at 7.30pm, If they dont have a nap they are down for the night by 6pm.

Dd is 22mo, she used to sleep for almost 2 hrs in the day but she wasn't falling asleep until about 8.30pm (in bed but not going to sleep).

I've cut her nap down to 1hr 15mins ish and she's a lot better now. when I wake her up she's a bit clingy and whingy rather than grumpy but a cup of milk and cbeebies for half an hour or so sort her out.

No nap and not two till May. Finally goes to bed at a decent time after 4 months of ridiculous late nights.

DD naturally sleeps for two to two and a half hours. Tried waking after an hour made no diff to bedtime. She is tired late afternoon/evening but the bedtime sleep makes up for it!

OK if you want to solve the sleep problem, I've said it before but here goes:
Drop the nap!
Yes indeedy. At just 2 both DD and DS2 were sleeping 2 hours in the day and refusing to go to bed at night. Stopped putting them down for bed - result - sleepy child at 7pm who goes to bed like an angel!
(I could never wake either of mine early, but if there was no nap at all they didn't seem to mind so much.)

My 26 mo dd sleeps for 1.5 to 2 hours after lunch, from 1 til 3ish, goes to bed at 8pm and is woken by me at 8-30 in the morning. Long may it continue!!

DS (2.3) usually sleeps 12 hours at night with a 2 hour nap in the day, however, recently hes been waking in the night so I thought we might be ready for cutting the nap. I have the exact same thing though, if I wake him after an hour, he's not just grumpy for half an hour, but full on tetchy til he goes to bed again. But, he does sleep through again.

Rock and a hard place really, Im hoping that its just a transitional period.

dd is 2.10 and still has one hour from 1pm to about 2pm, she asks to go for her nap, any longer and she's bouncing off the walls at 6am the next morning - delayed reaction? and any less and her and dd1 are trying to kill each other by 4.30pm!

I love nap time - long may it continue!

It varies - if ds is really worn out in the morning he still goes for two hours. But sometimes no nap at all and when he's at nursery he averages 45 mins to an hour. He still goes to bed at more or less the same time every night although if he's had two hours he can manage to go until 7.30pm without much problem.

Knew I shouldn't have looked...couldn't resist...my dd gave her daytime nap up at the age of two, about a week before her brother was born. If she's had a hectic morning and we are out she might sleep for an hour in the buggy but no more. She sleeps seven until 6-630 ish but wakes at least twice a night. (Nightmares I think) Very jealous of those of you who still get a break...

thanks for all those replies!! think i will start just gradually reducing nap down a bit from 2hrs, see how it goes. don't really want to cut nap completely, as he obviously still needs it; he's always pooped if we've been to park, play area, toddler group etc. in the morning. he's still cutting some teeth at the minute as well, which means the length of his night time sleep is all over the place; sometimes he's awake for 7, sometimes he's still asleep at 9. i've also found if he misses his usual nap if we are out, and he has a quick doze in the car or buggy, that it doesn't always mean he sleeps longer at night. also, if he only has a very short sleep at lunchtime, he seems to get a bit "past it", and takes him a while still to go to sleep at night!! why are children so complicated??

to all those who say long may nap time continue, if yr toddlers go to bed as well, then I'm all for it too!
Just that mine (like Alibo's) used to then stay up late. Given the choice of no nap but 7pm bedtime and nap and 9pm bed, I know which I prefer!

Guess I am REALLY lucky then...my DS is 22 months and sleeps every afternoon for 3-4 hours goes to bed at 7PM everynight and sleeps til 8am - 9am and sometimes even 10am Yes I love naptime Mind you I am sure he is making up for lost sleeping time as a baby as he was a extremely bad sleeper the first 9 months with me having to get up every 2 hours...so we are both catching up now on our lost sleep x
