I always try to be in bed at a sensable time, 9around 11ish, if not even earlier. Think is, i fall asleep easily, but then wake up throughout the night often. I fall asleep agai quite easily.
I am suffering with PND, so taking anti-d's, and also taken some strong painkillers for the SPD ive had. I've recently had the implant contraceptive.
Whats best to take for it?

What time do you get up in the morning?

I read something once that said if you are experiencing a patch of really bad sleeping, go to bed later for a few nights to try & break the cycle.

If you can get back to sleep easily I would worry to much or take anything.

Also, how long have you been on the anti-d's? Depression causes insomnia so perhaps they need a little longer to work?

Are you getting out every day and getting some fresh air? It sounds obvious but having had vaious family members suffer over the years with diferent types of depression, and sleep problems myself, a little exercise is often the last thing you feel like, but can be really important. I know you are probably feeling tired enough with bub etc but do try to get in a good walk and see if getting moving a bit helps. The hardest thing about insomnia is not worrying about it, you have my sympathy. Good luck.

Totally sympathise with this, it is the story of my life. I have the best slept baby in the world (how lucky am I?), and yet I wake up every hour / hour and a half or so pretty much all through the night - very annoying!!! However, it has always been so, I've never been a brilliant sleeper (have suffered with depression on and off for years and it is definitly worse when going through a 'bad patch'. In the past I have found Valerian to be reasonably good, although they do tend to take up to an hour to work, but generally once they have kicked in I might get a reasonable night - not fool proof though. Don't take them at the moment though, as I'm partially b/f and already taking bp meds so don't want to overload ds's system. Sorry not to be much help, but sending you my sympathies!!! Smile

I have sleep problems, waking up at 4ish and not able to get back to sleep...this has been going on for years. I use Boots Sleepease, when it gets bad, not every night though. They are a mild antihistamine. no side affects, but they really work. check with your doctor if on anti depressants, and make sure your dh/dp knows when you take them, in case you sleep so well, you don't wake in the night if the children want you.

it may be worth checking with your gp that the particular anti depressant you're taking doesn't make your sleep problems worse. a friend of mine had pnd and waking in the early hours of the morning is apparently a very common symptom of pnd.the first ad tablets prescribed by her doctor actually listed in the side effects, can cause insomnia. not much good if thats one of the symptoms you've already got!! she was given a different type of ad to try which was much better. sorry cannot remember the actual names of the tablets though, but its worth checking that your medication isn't making your sleep worse.

Hiya
Thx for all the advice, saw the doctor yesturday who thinks its the PND that is causing it. I have to take my tablets every day (not just on a bad day!), and see how that goes. Had another restless night last night, and the worst bit is all my dd and ds are both excellent sleepers.
Lets see how tonight goes then!
