18 month old - to bring a buggy or not?

Would welcome anyone who has done a ski holiday with an 18 month old and what they did re a buggy.

I am tempted not to bring one.

We can manage the airport without one. Just carry him and he can stand / walk at baggage reclaim etc. when dealing with bags.

In the resort (Val D'Isere) I was thinking of just hiring a sledge and making do with that to get him around.

Which leads me to think we may end of bringing a buggy and not using it much.

Is it unrealistic to think we can manage without one?

I am already drowning in ski gear and am looking to lighten the load!

Thanks!

What time of year are you going? If early on in season then a sledge should be fine as loads of snow around. Later on, the paths might be cleared.

15th December. Looks like there is snow there now I think - a bit on the roofs etc..

Good point re the paths..

I have done several ski holidays since DS was 6m old and only now, when he is 3.5 would I think twice about taking a buggy.

Apart from the well made point about paths, it is much easier to have a child in a buggy at an airport, particularly if you encounter delays! It means you can keep him under control if necessary and he can also sleep in it. Also, would it really be easier to have him standing/needing carrying and manage bags than be able to push him? There is often a lot of walking through airports to gates etc required too and an 18mo will be to little to manage it and pretty heavy to carry.

At the resort,(and Val is a pretty big one) apart from getting around, wouldn't you have a chance of enjoying lunch with everyone while DS sleeps in buggy? It was my strategy at least !

We've been with 15mth old but she was running around then,i was tempted not to take buggy and use backpack carrier thing at airport but in the end it was much easier with it. It really helped if she wanted to sleep at lunchtime, sledging and messing in the snow really tired out DD so buggy was great for that, check if you can hire one from a ski shop in case you change your mind, bet you can. have a fab hols.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply.
