can you learn to ski as a family?

like when dd is older, we caan all learn together?

how much older ? In practice kids tend to learn much quicker and are more flexible so less inhibited than adults. They usually enjoy the company of other kids in lessons and independence form parents

Fab idea although not cheap. Mine started learning last year when my youngest was 6. No probs.

We all did when sisters and I were about 12 9 and 7.

well we only have one dd, who is only 17months atm i know its far too young now, but its something i would like to do when shes older.

what age is a good age to start?

we live in bucks, so we have been skiing in the snow done twice pre me getting pg.

Between 5 and 8 is a good age to start but don't expect to learn together in the same lesson.

the reason i've been thinking about it today is, i was thinking how nice to would be oneday to take dd to lapland.

i really fancy the snow mobiles husky and sledge rides and toggagaing [ thats is what we used to call sledging isn't it?]

as well as some very easy non challenging skiing.

so i thought maybe levi would be a good place to go, whaat do you think?

You can. Ski schools run beginner classes for all ages. Your chldren may not get the scnapps on the last day, though.

i don't mean siblings i ment me dh and dd together. when shes much older

You can if you book an instructor for your family, but not going into regular group lessons.

I know a family who did this at a snow dome place before going on holiday.

dh and ds1(9) and ds2(7) now book an instructor/guide for the day when we go on holiday and zoom about. dh probably learns more with other adults, but likes to ski with the kids who just want to race through trees, do jumps and terrain parks.

I meet them for hot chocolate and then go back to my nice groomed, wide runs!

You could book a private lessons to start you off but the younger dd is at the time the more difficult it is for an instructor to teach you all as one group plus it is expensive. Friend took 3dc (aged 6-11) for their 1st time this year and they had lessons together(very small resort, quiet week fo the season). After just a few days one was doing much better than the others including my friend who had skied several times before so they were all different standards within the week.

We're trying lapland, yllas, this year for the first time so will let you know how we get on. We've always been to the alps before and skied hard but now with two little ones who are learning thought we'd try somewhere with easier skiing for them to enjoy with us and with lots of other activities like husky rides,sledging.
