Advice Needed: Skiing with a 2 year old at Whistler?

Hello, I need advice please.

My family of DH, DSx3 (aged10,8,2)and me are thinking of going skiing at Whistler, Canada for 10 days next April.

None of us has skied before (well ds1, ds2 and dh tried for half an hour in Switzerland this summer and loved it)

We would go with my sil who can ski and is a qualifed instructor (I think)

My question:
What will we do with the 2 year old?
I think he will be livid to be left in a creche - he is sad enough about his older brothers leaving him to go to cubs each week. I don't want to keep leaving him anyway, we both work so he is with my parents all day usually.

Will there be enough for him and i or him and dh to do for 10 days, while the others ski?
Or it is a long way to go to watch a 2 year old fall over in the snow a lot?

For me, it's a long way to go not to ski for 10 days, with jetlag to deal with too, and we are a family who skies once/twice a year.

I would try out somewhere cheaper/closer/with childcare, with stuff to do if you aren't ski-ing - the older European resorts rather than the purpose built.

But is there a particular reason why Whistler? Is that where your SIL is based?

Here is a link to Childcare at Whistler. Apparently they take very good care of children there.
I live just outside of Vancouver, and IMO it's gorgeous here... but it is a long way to come with a 2-year-old, especially if he's too young to try skiing. Personally I wouldn't have thought of Whistler as an amazingly child-friendly place, at least not a child that young... I suppose you could take him sledding, or if you get a backpack frame to carry him in, you could go hiking, but I don't know what other toddler activities there are. If you want, I can phone the Whistler childcare facility (it's a LOT cheaper for me than for you from the UK) and see if they have any useful input? We also have friends who live in Squamish (just south of Whistler), and work in W, so they might know. Will check for you if you like?

Good luck with your 2 yr old. Lets hope as creche or some form of child care is the only answer he will settle and be ok after one day. Afterall yopu must miss the chance to try skiing. Its only 10 days for you to seize the opportunity. We put our ds 3yrs into french speaking creche and he did cry a lot (and i felt awful) but i learnt to ski and so did he and now he is 8yrs he skis brilliantly and so do i (well average !!! lol lol)
