Ski and snowboarding

Any countries/ resorts where DS would be able to take lessons for only half the day?

We've just got back from Neiderau in Austria, where the ski school was 4 hours a day. They refused to take DS1 for mornings only, as they said he would fall behind the group. He's only 4 so I'm not worried about him learning quickly - I think there is plenty of time for him to learn, and 4 hours would have been too much for him. Before I left I thought I had booked into the Thomson Ski Rangers school, which is half days, but apparently this part of my booking did not make it to the resort

In the end he went to the kids club in the morning, and skied with us for an hour or so next afternoon. Thinking ahead, I'd like to go somewhere next year where he can do a half day of lessons only. Any recommendations?

Generally ski school in Austria is all day, but in France for half days. Don't know what the norm is in other places.

The French ski schools (ESF) do half days, either 9-11.30 or 2-4.30. Ds has been doing them since he was 5 and they are in every French resort.

At Saas Fee 4 and 5 year olds can do afternoons only, a lot of Swiss ski schools can offer part time group lessons or maximum 3 hours (10-1).

We are going to Puy St Vincent (southern french alps) with Snowbizz..they offer childrens ski school in the mornings only. The children will then have the option of skiing with us in the afternoon or going to the Snowbizz creche..

Geilo in Norway do morning or afternoon lessons. Fab instructors, especially for the little ones. Very good English spoken, very small groups, lovely family atmosphere.

As with post from Popmum - we've skied with Crystal for past few years - just booked for Club Hotel Turquoise in Belle Plagne for Mar 09 and DD1 (who will be 3 and 3/4) will do Ski Kindergarden (lessons but fun park area with no lifts and inflatable things etc so more emphasis on fun) whihc will be for 2.5 hrs each morning - then Crystal pick her up and do lunch then play group/fun in the afternoon. Would recommend La Plagne in general as a good resort for kiddies. - and Crystal have very good deals on 09 holidays a tthe moment - we got DD1 free with DD2 as an infant and only had to pay £200 total for supplements for under occupancy for a room which sleeps 5!

For that age (ie 4-6) Magic in Motion in Meribel only do 2 hours lessons. We put ds in in the mornings (9.15 to 11.15) and then had some lunch with him and then put into the Club Piou Piou - the Ecole de Ski Francais "kindergarten" where they just played in the snow and then, depending on whether they had ski passes, MIGHT go out onto the easy lopes for a wee while. Some days he just wanted to go home to the chalet in the afternoon and we let him. taking it in turns to go off and ski on our own.
