Ski & snowboarding

We have been invited to go Skiing first week in April. Will there really be any snow to ski on?

Have been invited out to Dps aunts beautiful chalet near to Zell am See. Flights are really cheap and we really want to go- but its our first ski trip and im unsure as to whether there will actually be anything to ski on

There has been fresh snow then the last few years but it isn't reliable. Zell itself is low unless you make an effort to go over to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier past Kaprun(20 mintues or more by bus then lift/train up), not ideal for beginners tbh. Check the resort website but Zell ski lifts may well start to shut down that first weekend in April unless they get a late fall of snow. Why not go anyway and just enjoy the mountains and lake, with snow and skiing as a bonus ?

Looks like end of season events are planned for weekend of 5/6th April.

is Kaprun a good ski resort? (the house is between Zell and another resort which I think may be Kaprun)

I really fancy it

Kaprun is much smaller than Zell and has a good indoor pool complex and monastery. Is the chalet near the lift to the top of Zell ski area from the village in between (can't rememeber its name) then ? Again the lower nursery slopes could be bare by then. We went about 15 years ago(!) towards end of March and couldn't ski down to Zell or Kaprun.

I think its that village!!- Dps uncle described it as having a lake and chalet is very close to the ski lift to Zell.
Cant remember the name of the village.

if you couldn't ski, would it be terrible? it's a beautifly area and cheap and presumably free accommodation - houw about looking at the skiing as an added bonus?

it's horrible learning to ski on slush/ice - personally if i was learning to ski now i would book myself a nice week somewhere in the USA where snow is powdery soft and reliable and the instructors are all georgous sympathetic 22 year olds who have English as their first language and are trained to praise you all the time!!!

Have just looked at a site and its says that Zell has lots to do in 'warm' months also- so may just go along for the break and see how it goes.

We are definetly going for New Year though!!
