...SWITZERLAND??

she used to eat a bit of meat, but her nana has brainwashed her lol! although to be fair, we hardly eat meat at home, so she is not really used to it.

i am a bit concerned that there'll be NOTHING for her to eat. she wont even eat cheese, unless its melted.

what am i going to do? let her live on chips and bread for a week? i thought i might take nuts, crakers, raisns peanut butter so we can do bedtime snacks which are hight in protein.

any ideas/coping strategies?

tia

She'll be fine! I imagine they have vegetarians in Switzerland too.

If needs must, she can live off of omelettes for the week! Most hotels will rustle one up if needs be

brown rice, lentils, pasta, eggs, baked potatoes...lots of things, really. its just tha ieda of a set menu that worries me. am hoping that there'll be a few courses so she'll be able to fill up on the bits she likes . carbs, carbs and more carbs, no doubt.

yes, i was thinking that most chefs would whip up an omellette.

anyplace where you can set up a tranger or single burner camp stove?

you could always bung on a can of lentil soup and add chopped tofu to heat up for her.

sainsbury's sells this stuff called 'beanfest' which is actually pretty good.

just mix it with some couscous, easy to cook if you've got a kettle.

i always add a tin of chopped tom to it and some seasoning for the perfect quick, nutritious camp meal.

lentil soup is a great idea, expat. not sure how practical the stove idea would be, but i reckon i could get access to a microwave to heat some soup. thanks.

Ask them to do a veggie option for her, could be eggs, pizza or pasta or simply something based around whatever is on the menu or the ubiquitous chips! If the kids eat early they'd ahve more time to rustle something up espeically for her or she can eat from salad buffet at main dinner if they eat with you. btw the dh of the creche manager is the chef - he'll understand the problem , honestly

if you can get a microwave, then you can also do the beanfest stuff from sainsbury's, too, and rice in a pouch and add an egg (can make those in the microwave, too!).

ah liz, i mightve guessed you'd be along to save the day . will also try to persuade her that she might enjoy sausage and ham, and that she can be properly vegetarian after her holiday um...not sure if i'm joking or not

and there is a supermarket about a 5 minute walk away if you need to get anything. Not sure they'll let you near the kitchen yourself though, unless you do the pizza making. Look out for Alplermacaroni - macaroni cheese to the rest of us but sometimes also has potatoes and cream.

I was vegatarian for many years and had no problems at all on holiday, although sometimes that means settling for an omelette or just veg and starchy stuff. Bread and soup e.g. is good and filling. Crepes are popular in Switzerland, as are fondues. I really wouldn't worry about it. She'll survive for one week, even on potatoes and veggies

yes soapbox, you're right. i guess its a bit different if you pick the restauarant/ menu each night yourself, but a set menu can present a problem.

liz has reassured me , though.

pasta sauce and cheese? Always good for veggie children! When I first became veggie when I was about 13 its all I ate for years!

Not that I recall but dd was past that stage when we took her - just had cows' milk from the bar ! Think they just warm them up if you ask. Spaghetti with tomato sauce is a staple on kids menus in most Swiss restaurants (along with nuggets and chips, sausgae and chips, bowl of chips etc). She'll be fine One evening is usually a raclette , small jacket potatoes and melted cheese, anyway so if she can hold out until 7 she could have that.
