Ski & snowboarding

Do you think a 6yo would be able to ski all day?

Or would she be a wreck.

DD is having lessons in the morning (she's skied for 3 weeks already in previous years). She's happy on blues and I imagine will be doing easy reds this next week. She loves skiing and is good on lifts.

She wants me to take her out of snow club in the afternoons and for her to ski with me. Does anyone think this sounds ok or too much? I'll keep her booked in with snow club just incase.

You mean there is such a thing as a worn out six year old? If skiing does it then I'm booking mine in for some

We used to ski with ours in the afternoon (dd1 was 6 last year) after a morning at ski school. I don't think they could ski for hours, but it was nice to spend the time with them.

dh is taking the dcs this year (I am heavily pregnant) and is planning to do the same again.

dh is taking mine when I will be 36 weeks pg so we decided that I am probably a bit too pg to go- I'm slightly concerned that I'm cutting it too fine, but looking forward to a child free house for a week pre-baby.

ds1 has skied all day since he was 4, and 2 hours each morning and afternoon with skischool, with a long break (90 mins) in the middle, plus a run before and after with us the year before that.

My two don't want to go to ski school as they want to spend the time with us. I hate making them do things they don't want to on holiday so feel really guilty. I have spoken to the ski school (austria) who have said the boys can do just 2 hours in the morning but they will get left behind in the group as the lessons are also 2 hoursin the afternoon. So do I a) send them to ski school just for 2 hours, b) send them all day c) all have joint private lesson for 2/3 hours a day and hope for the best. Sorry to hijack the thread (I always seem to do this!) but didn't want to open a thread on the same subject.

Flowertop - how old are they, and how much skiing have they done? And how much have you done come to that?

DS skied all day when he was 4.5 i.e. ski school for 2 hours morning & afternoon. After eating aftenoon tea & ice cream he demanded to go swimming evey day as well!
In fact I've just emailed the Ski school where we are going in Feb (he'll be 5.5)asking about half day ski school and they say they don't do it, it's full day or nothing. I would actually prefer mornings only but the little ones don't seem to mind the full day

Flowertop why don't you just book them in for 2 or 3 days ski school to find their ski leg then ski with them the rest of the holiday. Thats what I might do (re my post below, also Austrian ski school - Hinterglemm).

They are 7 and 9. 9 year old is good, 7 year old is not as we have only been once and he was cold which is why I don't want to just send them off to ski school for the whole day when he won't be happy. Hubby good like 9 year old. Me, crap skier and no confidence which is why am desparate to get my ski legs. CM great idea about putting them in for couple of days and then the rest with us. What a fab idea. Thanks allXX

The downside of just doing 2 or 3 days is that the ski schools usually do kids races/awards at the end of the week so they'll miss out on that. Also the Austrian ski school pricing often works out hardly any more for 5 days than 3, so check that out - you might be better off booking for 5 days, but then saying on days 4 and 5 that they won't actually take the afternoon lesson.

Agree with LunarSea that there is little difference in price between 3 & 5 days, good suggestion.

Flowertop, my Dc ususally complain about lessons, and in Austria we booked them in for only half days. But by the endof the first day they were clamouring to go for the whole days as they got to saty up the mountian over lunch, buyt their own lunch, and get a ride pulled behind a snowmobile..
We offered to meet them in the restaurant where they would be kinching with their group, but they explained focefuly that paretn were no allowed
Austria was fab for kids school - other places they generally have not been so keen.

Sorry - typed too fast (call me MrsCODofGisbourne) - I mean they lunched with their group.

just got back with dd's 6 and 8. We didn't book snow club n the afternoons and just booked it ad hoc when the kids wanted it. DD 8 only went once (skied with us in afternoons) DD 6 went 3 times as she was exhausted
