This year my DS(8) wants to ditch his skis dress up in funny cloths and become a snow boarder.. Am I old and past it for wanting him to stay on skis for a few more years? Has anybody else had this happen?

not been down that road yet, mine all still happy on skis.

But if he does, make sure he has all the protection.

...and don't try it yourself!

Ds is still 7 (6 when he was skiing earlier this year). He started making noises abut wanting to give snow boarding a try: we've told him he can do it when he can pay for his own snow board hire and lessons!

Dh and I are proud to be grumpy old skiiers!

My DS also 8 is desperate to snow board. I have said he can have a go but you need to be a certain hieght and weight or you cant bend the board enough to turn. I think he will keep his skis for the main though as he is pretty fast on them and will spend most of his early snowboarding lessons on his bum His older cousins all switch back and forwards between boarding and skiing. Anyway with double tipped skis skiing is way back in with all the young dudes!!

Both my boys (7 and 5) have mentioned it but I have ignored it so far!! The 5 year old is most keen so it would be a while before he could have a go anyway. They need to keep up with their skiing at the moment though otherwise they lose face in their school and Kindergarten ski races!!

ds1 & ds2 tried a day of snow boarding 2 years ago when they were 4 & 6. ds2 was much more of a natural than ds1 which will bug him no end. This year they are going to ski for 9 days and then when we swap resort can board for 5 days. dh might give it a go as well - but not me. They can both ski well enough that we can get about as a family - it's me that holds everyone else back and refuses to do some things. I'm hoping that as ds3 his having is first time this year and is only 3 I will be able to keep up with him!

LizP - you sound like my sort of skiier!! In our 1st year here I could keep up with ds aged 3 , last year I had no chance!! This year I'll be taking it very steady if I ski as I'm pregnant, so I won't see my boys at all , they'll be tiny blobs at the bottom of the piste!!
