Skiing for children aged 4 mths to 8 yrs in Austria?

We're trying to organise a ski holiday to Austria next year and cater for four children aged from 4 months, 2 years old, 5 years old and 8?

Not really sure about trying to match everyone's needs & not just the kids!

Anyone got any ideas?

Do you want one with childcare( if so, Kinderhotels, Mark Warner, Ski Esprit or Crystal may work for you), what level of skiing and when ?

We plan on going during half term (Feb) and will need a holiday with childcare. All the kids are beginners. My eldest (8) did go once before but it was about 4 years ago.

Defintiely go with a UK tour operator like those I've mentioned then. Half term local ski schools can be really crowded but some of these have their own exclusive groups with English speaking instructors. tbh you may not have an awful lot of choice for half term even now, especially if you require several rooms and dedicated childcare. Igluski.com will do a search of various operators to your specifications and may throw up some specific family orientated resorts.

UK operators tend not to have a smaller choice of resorts for Austria compared to, say, France. Mark Warner have a dedicated hotel in St Anton in Austria, which is a good resort and the hotel is fine too. I haven't used the childcare but looked perfectly nice. It won't be cheap though, specially not over half term.

I have booked this hotel in Alpbach www.galtenberg.com for Jan 07.

I live in Austria so researched and booked independantly, 2 weeks later it started displying the Kinderhotel affiliation and then discovered you can book from the UK with Inghams or Crystal!

I don't have a personal recommendation but it does appear on www.tripadvisor.com plus the resort is very quiet & childrens skiing is right outside the door.

Lapsrunner, it does look great, but they are full for 1/2 term already!

We tried Obergurgl last April - still buckets of snow and less crowds - just lovely. Had a 5 year old and 7 year old - ski school was fantastic with excellent English spoken. The resort is small but a fast gondola links to Hochgurgl and there is skiing to suit all levels.

If you want a small, quaint, genuine Austrian skiing village - you can't beat this place!
