If you wear one of these while skiing, which type do you wear? Thanks.

I have a fleece one. My hubbie has a Velcro one which is a bit easier to get on and off Grin

Merino here, means you can pull up over nose in storm and breathe still, where as suffocate in fleece

I wear a thin buff one (buff brand - its actually black and white).

I only ski in the French alps, though, nowhere really cold.

Merino buff. All the dc just have the cotton ones- fleece ones seem a bit thick/ unbreathable.

Thanks. I am usually too hot when skiing so I've never worn one. I picked up a fleece one years ago in decathlon but never really used it as it is quite thick and makes me sweaty. Then a couple of months ago I bought an actual buff in microfibre which I can see myself wearing as an alice band for walking but I don't know how much use it would be in the cold. We usually ski in the French alps but I might be going to Beitostolen in Norway so I don't know how that will compare temperature-wise. Should I look at the merino ones or will I manage with the microfibre one?

We are off to Norway this weekend & I think merino buffs are best - you can pick them up easily on eBay.

Having said that, we've all got fleece ones, (DH & I turtle fur like LIZS) & dc cheaper ones.

If I was buying from scratch, I'd but merino Smile

I have a thin buff one, but next time I am going to buy one of the buffs that has a fleece bottom and a thin top. My friend had one this year and it was much better than mine. When I was wearing mine as a balaclava under my helmet the back of my neck got cold as it wasn't quite long enough, but she had the fleece bit round her neck and the top thin bit as a balaclava.

I run fleece ones up on the sewng machine very quickly. A metre of stretchy fleecy stuff makes four, assuming it is a metre wide. Cut it into square quarters, join two opposite edges making a tube, join the ends of the tube together leaving a small gap, turn inside out through the gap and close it up. Hard to explain but self evident when you try it. Result four for around £5, ideal for Christmas stockings. We have loads in different colours so no big deal if any get lost.

Thank you! I'm very tempted to get a merino one now. I got the slim fit buff which is the same size as the junior buff so I can get a children's one. That is a great idea about making some! I will definitely run some up for the children as they lose everything so I am not forking out for merino for them.
